Harris has supported policies that some fear could limit the freedom of Christian organizations, particularly in cases where they might be required to compromise Biblical convictions to comply with secular laws
As born-again Christians, we are called to align our choices with the Bible’s teachings. While political choices are complex, evaluating a candidate’s values and policies against the foundations of our faith is essential. Kamala Harris, as a public figure and political leader, advocates for policies and stances that many Christians find challenging to support due to their potential conflicts with Biblical principles.
One of the most significant areas of concern is Harris’s stance on abortion. Harris is a vocal supporter of abortion rights, advocating for laws that expand access to these services. For Christians, life is a sacred gift from God, with Scripture affirming that every life is “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14) and that God knows each person before they are born (Jeremiah 1:5). The Bible teaches that life begins at conception, making abortion a fundamental issue that directly opposes Christian beliefs. As Christians committed to valuing all life, supporting a leader with a strong pro-choice stance can be difficult.
Harris has consistently advocated for LGBTQ+ rights, supporting same-sex marriage, transgender rights, and anti-discrimination laws that include gender identity. While the Bible instructs us to love and respect every individual (Matthew 22:39), it also defines marriage as between a man and a woman (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4-6). Harris’s policies are seen by some Christians as not just endorsing but promoting lifestyles that conflict with traditional Biblical teachings on marriage and gender. A vote for Harris could signify support for policies that challenge these longstanding Biblical principles.
As the cultural landscape changes, many Christians have concerns about religious freedoms under leaders who promote progressive policies. Harris has supported policies that some fear could limit the freedom of Christian organizations, particularly in cases where they might be required to compromise Biblical convictions to comply with secular laws. For example, Harris has backed anti-discrimination measures that could pressure Christian organizations to act against their beliefs, such as in hiring practices. For born-again Christians, voting for someone who supports policies potentially limiting religious freedoms is a serious consideration.
Harris advocates for policies like expanded government healthcare and federal economic support, favoring a strong government role in solving social issues. While these initiatives aim to support the underprivileged, some Christians view them as encouraging dependency on the state rather than fostering responsibility and stewardship. Scripture calls individuals to work diligently (2 Thessalonians 3:10) and to rely on God as their ultimate provider, with the church’s role to support those in need (Acts 2:44-45). A government model that increasingly becomes a provider can, some argue, shift reliance from God to secular institutions.
Harris’s stance on judicial matters, including her past openness to altering the Supreme Court’s structure and expanding its seats, raises concerns among conservative Christians. Altering the structure of the Supreme Court to align more closely with progressive values could jeopardize rulings that align with Biblical principles, such as the right to life and religious freedoms. As a Christian voter, supporting a candidate whose policies could reshape judicial authority may conflict with the goal of preserving a justice system that upholds Biblical values.
While Harris’s career and policies demonstrate a commitment to equality and social justice, her stances challenge traditional Christian beliefs in critical areas. Born-again Christians are called to be “salt and light” (Matthew 5:13-16), making choices that reflect their commitment to Biblical truth. Given Harris’s positions on life, marriage, religious freedom, and government’s role, many Christians might choose to vote in a way that more closely aligns with their faith and convictions.
Each voter should prayerfully consider their decision, seeking wisdom to choose leaders who support values rooted in the Word of God.
